KATWARN is a service app for the transmission of hazard and catastrophe warnings inside Austria. The app ensures location-based notifications about hazard stories, corresponding to major fires or extreme weather, and offers the choice of always being informed about the current location and in addition about seven other, freely selectable places. This choice could be canceled at any time, adjusted and switched off if essential. By using energy-efficient localization via base stations and WLAN entry factors (and not via GPS), the battery is just slightly drained.
In addition, warnings from the KATWARN system in Germany can also be subscribed to and received.
The app has the next functions:
• Active notification (push notifications) about risks for as much as eight places: along with the current location (=guardian angel), seven freely selectable locations
• Precise postal code warnings for the selected locations with warning texts and color-based classification of the warning level
• Continuous, nameless updating of the location info, in order that no further guide entries are required
• Immediate notification when coming into a present hazard area
• Feedback function for suggestions to the app service provider
